Just go back from my Optifast class and doctors appointment! I weighed in this week at 226! That is a loss of 1 pound this week, while not as big as my usual loss, it is still a loss and that is all the matters!
During class today we discussed portion sizes and serving sizes, portion sizes are whats right for you and your body, where serving sizes are a general guideline for a specific food or meal. As we were discussing this and how hard it is to get the right portion size. I really realized that as a society, we are set up to fail! The news is bombarded with reports and investigations on obesity and alarming statistics, but that same news report will be interrupted by countless fast food commercials enticing the average american to go buy food that will kill them! While hypocritical and confusing, the most shocking part of the fast-food machine is they tell people what a serving size IS, or how many calories there are in a burger or fries, but the typical american isn’t taught what those numbers MEAN and how they affect your body and its ability to be healthy! I wanted to share this infographic with you guys, I think it is pretty shocking and shows just how much our food and nutrition standards have changed:
I found this alarming, we are being marketed “meals” that could feed a family and provide little to no nutritional support, and creating an unsustainable culture. If you guys haven’t seen the documentary Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret, I highly suggest you do and form your own opinion on the matter!
I think the fact the we are set up in this way, just makes beating this and creating a healthy life so much more satisfying and remarkable!
